About The Artist
Tina Field Howe spent her
childhood in Waverly, NY, a quiet little village close to the
northern border of Pennsylvania. There was lots of countryside where
she grew up, and she spent a lot of time in the fields and woods
near her house, examining creatures, climbing trees, racing along
well-worn paths, and sometimes helping her mom, dad and grandmother
with
The middle of five children, Tina was raised in a household of creative people; her mother has been an oil painter, seamstress and crafter for years, and her siblings are also creative in various media. Having been involved since childhood in almost every medium available, she became serious about illustration in the 1990s. She has published in several books and other media. "Snailsworth, a slow little story," is her first children's writing and illustration endeavor. See samples of The Tellings of Xunar-kun Series Tina's YA science fantasy series of novels! A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Tina has been earning a living as a freelance communications designer since 1995. She creates everything from web graphics, logos and photo images to business communications, documentation, signage and scripts; writes stories, screenplays, poetry and lyrics; and designs and builds commissioned stained glass windows. More information about the various media she expresses herself through is contained throughout the pages of this web site (see the navigation bar above). Tina holds a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology and a minor in Art (nearly a
double major) from State University of New York at Brockport. Her
favorite studies included cross-cultural anthropology and art. She
particularly loves the old masters' art techniques (see "Boy from
Belfast" at right), which she brings to her digital artwork. She has
been involved in graphic design, very heavily in digital media,
since 1990. She also earned a Certificate from Writer's Digest
School Tina's community involvement includes mentoring many new and advancing artists, presenting "careers in art" at elementary through high school career days, and one-on-one software training. She also acts in community musical theatre and independent film productions, practices yoga, sings, swing dances, gardens, travels...and that's just the beginning.
