Who is Alysa? What compels her to find the champion who lives inside her?

Alysa has a great task to accomplish. The task includes a dangerous and forbidden journey through a harsh environment that takes her farther than she ever imagined. Even more dangerous, she must turn traditional thought around; if she doesn't, many young lives could be lost! She struggles with what she has been taught, the need to become tolerant of those who are different from her, and how her learnings fit with discoveries about the truth of her people's origins.

SYNOPSIS
Hidden deep in the mountains of planet Xunar-kun, the Field Folk clan believed themselves to be the only remaining people, other than the distant Trailmen, to inhabit their devastated world.

They were wrong.

In the process of realizing her individuality, Alysa - a young woman of the Folk - risks all to save her people from certain peril. As a result, long-hidden truths are revealed, age-old hatreds are healed, and Alysa leads her people to a new way of life.

STORY BACKGROUND
The setting for Alysa of the Fields is planet Xunar-kun (Shoonar-coon). This world has similarities to Earth of which many parallels are drawn, particularly in relationships between people.

Alysa, a young woman of the Field Folk clan, questions her society's
traditions. She often recalls the teachings of her recently deceased father
and finds a way to live as an individual. This is not an easy task! There
are many who would prevent her from going against tradition. But in doing
so, she finds courage to aid her people as no one has done for 3,000 years.

The story involves two distinct tribes that have had little contact for
all that time. Philosophies, ethics, behaviors and religions clash, with Alysa
right in the middle! Are these differences what caused the world to conduct a devastating war 3,000 years before? Perhaps. But Alysa must find the courage to undertake a journey that she never imagined: to save her people from a new danger that has invaded her mountains.

A STORY OF HEART AND GOOD VALUES

The story promotes the values of good character, honesty, respect for life, inner growth, and the necessity to stay open to people who have a different way of life.

WHERE DID THE ARTWORK COME FROM?

Tina created the cover and other artwork for the book. Caitlin Hatch, who posed for Alysa, lives in northern Pennsylvania. She is a true country gal and the perfect model for Alysa! Although Caitlin's hair was not very long for the photo shoot, Tina managed to give her a long braid in the illustration. Caitlin has agreed to pose for future covers! Hurray!

If you would like to contact Caitlin, you may e-mail her.

"I loved your book. I hope you sell a bunch of them and write a sequel. I can't wait! I loved the story, and I could really see how you used your training as an anthropologist in developing the different cultures. Great story. It was hard to put the book down. I think it's a great story for adults

as well as teens.”
